Representation of the houses in the Vedic Birth Chart 

Each janam patrika (birth chart) has 12 houses which represents different aspects of human life.

Added to the house, the placement of planets, their lord and their placement in various houses are studied for an accurate analysis. There are various charts that are drawn to arrive at a correct conclusion.
A Typical chart is shown below:




The 1st House: The Ascendant (BLACK) - Self
This is the most important house in the chart and plays an important role right throughout one's life.
It represents and controls the physical stature, health and longevity.

The 2nd House: Wealth
All matters concerning money are governed by this house. As well as Fortunes, material wealth such as jewellery and shares, profits and gains, power and resources, education. This is also a maraka sthana or a death inflicting house.

The 3rd House: Courage and Siblings
Nervous system, mental intellect and disposition are governed by this house. Relationships with brothers and sister's. Short trips, writing, change of residence, contracts.

The 4th House: Mother and Pleasures
Mother, farms, ancestral property and residence, academic education, water sources are represented by this house

The 5th House: Progeny, Romance and Competition
Progeny i.e. whether one will have children or not and of which sex, artistic abilities, excellence in mentally challenging and competitive games such as crosswords and cards, gambling, relationships, morals values, spirituality, wisdom, enormous riches, are represented by this house.

The 6th House: Enemy and Disease
Ailments and whether they will be curable or not, mental anguish, debts, livestock, tenants, jealousy and enemies are represented by this house.

The 7th House: Marriage and Partnerships
Earthly ties and unions, legal bondage, relationship with spouse, married life, gains or losses after marriage, type of spouse and his/ her physical and mental disposition, business partners, litigation, influence and travel in foreign countries, dangers faced in life.

The 8th House: Accidents and Death
Longetivity and span of life, inheritance, legacy, gratuity, accidents, fire or suicide, misery and misfortune, worries, delay, disappointment, theft and robbery etc are represented by this house

The 9th House: Fate and Fortune
Faith, wisdom, divine worship, pilgrimages, philosophy, fortune, religious disposition, meditation, intuition, sacrifices and charity, father, learning and teaching, dreams, long journeys, higher education foreign travels are represented by this house.

The 10th House: Profession
Honour, dignity, public esteem, power and prestige, credit and recognition received for a task completed, success and status, rank and renown, ambition, permanency in job, promotion, Government, political power, high posts in jobs and at political level, such as President etc. are represented by this house

The 11th House: Casual incomes and Gains
This house represents friends, society, community, ambitions and wish fulfillment, gain of wealth, success in undertakings, incoming wealth, prosperity, elder brothers, and recovery from illness.

The 12th House: Expenses and Losses
Losses and impediments, restraint and limitation, waste and extravagance, expenses whether good or bad, investments and donations, charity, sorrow and sin, secret enemies, involvement in scandals. Success through occult affairs. Activities abroad. These are represented by this house.
